Solving Snoring
What causes that sometimes thunderous, bellowing sound just as you’re trying to snooze? Great question. When we sleep, the muscles and tissues in our throat relax and become floppy, blocking the airway which causes snoring. Don’t worry, there are ways to solve this problem.
Figuring out what kind of pillow you have is a great start. Snoring often occurs based on your sleeping position. If you are a back sleeper and have a thin pillow, this causes your head and neck to rest flat, making the soft palate (the muscles in the roof of your mouth), tongue, and throat relax enough that it clogs the airway.
A simple solution is to get a thicker pillow. Yes, elevating your head even a few inches above your shoulders can prevent the airway from being blocked. But instead of stacking up your pillows, choose a thick one or one that allows you to adjust the fill so it will last a long time.
In this case, our Mélange Pillow Collection might be just the ticket. Why? Because it comes in fully loaded kapok fill (70% latex and 30% kapok tree fibers) and a knit-cotton cover. It has a zipper that allows you to add or subtract the fill to any comfort you want once you take it home.
Switch Your Sleeping Position
Another solution to stop snoring is to adjust your sleeping position. Sleeping on your side can pull your tongue down and away from blocking the airway. If you are a back sleeper, switch to your side and be sure to have a thick pillow that could support your head and neck.
Our Mélange Profile pillow is a perfect pillow for side sleepers. Complete with a curved design, you’re bound to fall in love with how pleasant this pillow is.
Try an Adjustable Base
If you are a back sleeper but you don’t want to sleep on your side, no problem. Upgrading your bed with an adjustable base is the best solution. To stop snoring is all about adjusting your sleeping position. An adjustable base allows you to incline your head even higher than any pillow could. Raising the head of your bed improves oxygen level. It also pushes down the tongue, allowing smoother airway circulation.
Even better, our Contemporary lll Adjustable Base comes with an anti-snore position! Imagine sleeping next to your partner, who snores, and all you need to do is press one button and the snoring goes away!
