Botanicore Latex: Why We Manufacture our own Latex Foam

Botanicore botanical latex mattress core comparison

Here at Bedrooms & More in Seattle, we’ve specialized in latex mattresses and bedding for almost thirty years.

We use only botanical latex straight from the rubber tree. Every latex mattress we sell is made with our signature core, called Botanicore™. We choose to sell no other types of latex in the store, either in our 45th Street Bedding mattresses, our pillows, or other bedding items.

Botanicore™ is the purest natural latex available

It’s comfortable, consistent, environmentally responsible, all botanical (straight from the tree, not synthetic or blended with chemical compounds), long lasting, and problem free. Compared to other latex, including “certified organic latex”, Botanicore™ is visibly and structurally better. We have an in-store display of our Botanicore™ latex alongside natural latex samples made with other processes, and customers can observe the differences. That’s why we use Botanicore™ as the core of our 45th Street Bedding mattresses.

SELECTION OF THE LATEX (RUBBER) SAP

To be at its best, latex sap should be aged between 30 and 50 days after tapping from the tree. In other words, the sap can’t be too ‘young’ or too ‘old’ to make a superior product – it has to be aged jut right. In order to age it properly without premature hardening, it’s whipped in a vat a minimum of 8 hours each day.

After aging, it’s whipped with soap and then poured into a mold that resembles a waffle iron. The whipped natural latex is hand troweled evenly across the surface; once full, the mold is stood up on one end and the core is baked in the machine until it’s the perfect level of solid.

Production occurs near the plantations where the sap is harvested, which prevents the need for additional chemicals that many other companies add to stabilize the latex while it is transported to distant manufacturing facilities.

We partner with a second generation company to make our Botanicore™. Together, we are well-versed in the proper manufacturing of mattress cores. We discuss our relationship with our manufacturing plant in this post.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS FROM RUBBER TREE TO MATTRESS CORE

Botanicore™ latex is manufactured using a controlled heating process in a vertical oven. This ensures that the final product is consistent, with no surface bubbling and other visual or structural inconsistencies. This process makes the latex core feel equal on each side with uniform density throughout.

CONSISTENCY

Botanicore™ is made without fillers or patches. There are no air pockets that can cause soft spots and it has proven and measurable conformity across the bed. Every core is tested for consistency, logged, and tracked from the production process through to the finished mattress, ensuring conformity to our stringent specifications. Both sides of the natural latex core have the same feel, making it ideal for two-sided mattresses, which is all we sell, by the way.

DURABLE DESIGN

You know that feeling when you sit down on the side of your bed and worry you might slide off? We’ve designed Botanicore™ so that it doesn’t happen. PURE Edge Support™ is designed and built into every one of these mattress cores. No glued-in or added-on edge support is needed.

SOLID CORE CONSTRUCTION

When we say 100% natural latex or ‘all botanical latex’, we mean no synthetic or blended latex is used. Botanicore™ is always one solid block core of natural latex (tree rubber only). Each size mattress is made in a one-piece mold for the specific size of the mattress. This allows for consistent density throughout the mattress and for the built-in “pure edge support” that is an integral part of the design. (Many brands of latex foam mattresses are pieced together to attain the larger sizes, so often have variances in support, side to side, as well as glue ridges in spots.)

CORE LONGEVITY

100% botanical latex is the longest lasting support system for mattresses. It doesn’t break down like synthetic latex (soy, poly, memory foam, gel foam), which are rubberized plastics, or blended latex (what is often called ‘natural’ latex) foams.

VISUAL QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY

Put Botanicore™ latex next to another latex core and the difference is obvious. Notice the consistency and the finished edge, and then see how the material stretches while other latex foams tear. All botanical latex is the purest, safest, and healthiest latex you will find. Botanicore™ is simply the highest quality natural latex available for use in our two-sided mattresses.

We only sell two sided mattresses. Here's Why:

A 2-sided mattress you can flip and rotate is better for your body and your wallet! Flippable mattresses last up to 3 times as long as ‘can’t flip’ ones. It’s simply untrue that 2-sided mattresses are no longer being made. Here at Bedrooms & More Seattle, they’re all we sell — because it’s what is best for our customers and the environment.

New “Dual System Headboards”

We are in the process of changing many of our headboards to be both “K Series” and “P Series” capable. The headboards will have both sets of holes for using either way. The new headboards will be marked “Dual System Headboard” on the boxes. This process will take time for all sizes and finishes to be available and will be gradual, as the new versions come in and the old version get depleted. We are telling you now so that you can be aware of what the “Dual System Headboard” terminology means when you see it on the box or in our catalog. The list of headboards that will be switched to the new “Dual System” are listed below. Of course, you will need to order the correct rails and footboards depending on whether the customer wants “K” or “P” Series. The new “K Series” height allows for the use of the bigger bunk bed drawers and/or trundle and “K Series” footboards already have the privacy panel built in. We are also making the Folding Footboard Bench Footboard “Dual System”. If you need one of the new items to be “Dual System” (for “K Series”), you will need to specifically request it until all old versions are gone, to make sure you get the new version.
