Health Benefits of an Adjustable Bed

Many people suffer from back pain, as well as experience a range of problems including limited mobility or issues resulting from an accident.  These issues compound as we grow older and experience the ongoing wear and tear that normal life subjects one’s body to. A simple fact that is often ignored is how we sleep.

The use of a proper support system is a method to increase one’s health.

Today, it is also possible to change your sleeping position. This can positively affect health issues, pains and ailments directly.  Having an adjustable bed makes it possible to change the sleep position to insure that you have the exact height of head and leg that allow for minimal stress on the body.

For Back Pain you can closely match the contour of your body using the adjustable bed controls in order to keep your back flatter in relationship to the ground.

This can help you to potentially avoid conditions like sciatica, where the sciatic nerve gets trapped near the base of the spine, causing pain when placed under pressure. Supporting the base of the spine correctly assists in preventing nerves becoming trapped and loosens those that may currently be lodged. If you have sciatica, using an adjustable bed can ease the associated pain.

Sleeping with some degree of incline can reduce some of the pressure in the back that causes compression during sleep.  This can be useful to prevent waking and causing injury to the spine when it is most vulnerable.  Additionally, there is no need to pile up pillows to recline and read, watch TV, knit or even sleep – too many pillows can cause neck ache and headaches.

For sleep apnea and snoring, sleeping with the head inclined will also assist in improving health.

One of the major causes of snoring is that the windpipe closes slightly due to the weight of the neck. That creates noise as the intake and expelling of air moves through the mouth. The adjustable bed can alter the direction of gravity so that there no obstruction and the sound of snoring is reduced and one’s sleep quality is enhanced.

For anyone that suffers from sleep apnea this is particularly important, as they wake up intermittently during their sleep cycle due to stopping breathing.  This severely damages the quality of sleep, as well as being potentially dangerous if the stopping is too long.  Altering one’s position can have a positive effect on some types of obstructive apnea.

For Swelling elevating an injured limb is a prescription to reduce the inflammation and pain.

A pillow or cushion is often used to raise the arm or leg, but that is difficult to maintain their position once one falls asleep.  Using an Adjustable Bed provides a consistent degree of elevation and can greatly assist in reducing the swelling.  Additionally, for those who work on their feet all day, it’s not uncommon to come home with either the lower legs or feet being swollen. The elevation of one’s legs will make the limbs feel better (increasing the flow of blood) while also combating the issue of varicose veins which form when blood pools in the lower limbs.

For digestion, sleeping in a slightly upright position is beneficial for processing food during the night.

Although it’s not advisable to go to sleep with too full a stomach, if one retires a few hours after a meal, reclining on an adjustable bed in the recommended 6″ elevated level will assist with healthy digestion.

We only sell two sided mattresses. Here's Why:

A 2-sided mattress you can flip and rotate is better for your body and your wallet! Flippable mattresses last up to 3 times as long as ‘can’t flip’ ones. It’s simply untrue that 2-sided mattresses are no longer being made. Here at Bedrooms & More Seattle, they’re all we sell — because it’s what is best for our customers and the environment.

New “Dual System Headboards”

We are in the process of changing many of our headboards to be both “K Series” and “P Series” capable. The headboards will have both sets of holes for using either way. The new headboards will be marked “Dual System Headboard” on the boxes. This process will take time for all sizes and finishes to be available and will be gradual, as the new versions come in and the old version get depleted. We are telling you now so that you can be aware of what the “Dual System Headboard” terminology means when you see it on the box or in our catalog. The list of headboards that will be switched to the new “Dual System” are listed below. Of course, you will need to order the correct rails and footboards depending on whether the customer wants “K” or “P” Series. The new “K Series” height allows for the use of the bigger bunk bed drawers and/or trundle and “K Series” footboards already have the privacy panel built in. We are also making the Folding Footboard Bench Footboard “Dual System”. If you need one of the new items to be “Dual System” (for “K Series”), you will need to specifically request it until all old versions are gone, to make sure you get the new version.
