1899, the Vispring story begins with British engineer, James Marshall. When his wife was taken ill in Canada, James hand-made her a supportive mattress with coiled springs wrapped in muslin. It was a revelation in comfort.

1901, the revolutionary design came to Britain. Brought over by John Nolon and Frederick James, the pair decided to produce the mattress commercially and incorporated the Marshall Sanitary Mattress Company.

Tension Selection

Vispring make mattresses in four different tensions, Soft, Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm. It's best to jettison all preconceived (or outdated) ideas about how a firm mattress is always best–because this is simply not the case. Tension is of course, all down to personal choice, but Vispring always asks you to consider your bodyweight as the main factor first. Spinal alignment needs to be correct to safeguard against aches and pains from sleeping on the incorrect mattress tension.

Soft - Up to 156 lb. (70 kg)
Medium 154 - 225 lb. (70 - 102 kg)
Firm 225 - 280 lb. (102 - 127 kg)
Extra Firm Above 280 lb. (127 kg)

Combination Mattress

To guarantee you wake fully feeling fully rested Vispring will make your mattress with different spring tensions on each side–either soft and medium, medium and firm, or firm and extra firm. It's worth remembering that Vispring also provides a bespoke service to tailor any mattress or divan to your specific needs.

Choosing Your Perfect Bed

A handy check–when you've take everything else into consideration and you're 90% sure which mattress seems like the best choice, it's time to check the support. If the mattress is too firm, you'll be able to slide your hand easily between the mattress and the hollow of your back. If the mattress is too soft, sliding your hand beneath your back won't be possible. Relax, take your time and let your body decide what's right for you.
