QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR STORE
Yes, we have a free parking garage directly behind our store, accessible from Latona Avenue. We offer free electric car charging inside it. In the event the garage is full, there’s free street parking throughout our walkable neighborhood of Wallingford. And in the event street parking is hard to find, we have several Bedrooms & More-designated parking spaces in the free lot behind Wine World, one block east of our store, accessible from 4th Avenue NE.
It sure is! On any given day, you’re likely to see a couple of the owners’ grandsons playing throughout the store. We have a small children’s area under the staircase on the main floor, complete with books and toys.
While our current building is not ADA compliant (due to the era in which it was built), we do everything we can to make sure our differently abled customers are comfortable shopping in our store. We offer access to our 2nd floor through an entry behind the store that’s wheelchair accessible, and we happily carry mattresses downstairs for people to try. Please give us a call before your visit and we’ll gladly do everything we can to help you shop comfortably!
The great news is, our new location is being designed with ADA compliance in mind! Soon all of our customers will be able to shop comfortably and freely throughout our store.
Our store opened in 1972, which means we’ve been in business 45 years and counting.
Jeff and Wanda Garfield are the founders and owners, along with their three adult sons. The store is independently owned by the Garfield family, and is not a franchise.
We accept all four major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), personal and business checks, and cash. We also offer financing through Synchrony Financial.
Our new, state-of-the-art retail building, located on the corner of NE 45th Street and 4th Avenue NE just east of our current store, is slated to open Spring 2017. We’ll keep our customers updated on progress as best we can. The new building will offer our customers more space to shop, an expanded merchandise selection, and a more modern shopping experience.
QUESTIONS ABOUT MATTRESSES
We sell only 2-sided mattresses because it’s what’s best for the consumer. Two-sided mattresses you can flip and rotate last up to 3 times as long as ‘can’t flip’ mattresses. We realize this is quite a departure from the mainstream mattress industry, as most consumer mattresses these days are one-sided (because it’s what best for manufacturers). But once we share our knowledge with customers about how mattresses are made (and why), they’re ready to embrace 2-sided and not look back.
A 2-sided mattress you can flip and rotate should stay comfortable and fairly even on both sides for 7-20 years when cared for properly. A ‘can’t flip’ mattress, which is what you’ll commonly find in the marketplace these days, will stay comfortable for 2-5 years when cared for properly. Bedrooms & More does not sell ‘can’t flip,’ one-sided mattresses.
No, we don’t. We consciously chose to break with the mainstream mattress industry and the ‘big S brands’ around the year 2000, in response to new manufacturing practices that don’t benefit consumers. At one time we carried some of these brands, but since they no longer sell 2-sided mattresses to consumers (only to the hotel industry), we’ve moved on and so has our business.
Yes, we do. We have several longstanding relationships with regional mattress manufacturers who build mattresses to our specifications. In addition to mattresses we design for the 45th Street Bedding brand, we also carry models from respected manufacturers who use good quality materials and durable construction.
Although these chemical-based materials are popular these days, they do not actually support a good night’s sleep. Memory foam sleeps hot and takes body impressions quickly and deeply, so that your bed becomes a sinkhole. Same thing with gel foam. Gel foam, which is marketed as having ‘cooling properties,’ actually heats up worse than regular chemical foams once the cooling effect subsides for the night. Both memory foam and gel foam off-gas, which can be unpleasant for people with chemical sensitivities.
